The candy desk is a tradition of the United States Senate. The desk, located on the Republican side of the Senate chamber, has been stocked with candy and treats since 1968 when the tradition was established by Sen. George Murphy. The desk's current tenant, whomever he or she may be, is charged with stocking the desk with candy.[1]
