Candy Quackenbush

A fictional character created by Clive Barker, Candy Quackenbush is a teenaged girl who is the main character and heroine of the Abarat Quintet. The whereabouts of her birth are enigmatic until midway in Abarat: Days of Magic, Nights of War.

Candy has many members in her family. Her mother, Melissa Quackenbush, is relatively sensible, sometimes even taking a stand to her abusive husband Bill, who was once handsome and friendly, but, after being fired from their town's chicken industry, became a heavy drinker. Candy's younger brothers, Ricky and Don, take pleasure in annoying her. In the Abarat she befriends a Geshrat named Malingo, an eight-headed man named John Mischief (whose other seven heads are named John Fillet, John Sallow, John Moot, John Drowze, John Pluckitt, John Serpent, and John Slop), and many other Abaratians such as Jimothi Tarrie,and Finnegan Hob.
