Candlewick Ward is a small ward[1]within the City of London, one of 25 based on the mediaeval governmental system that allowed the area to exist as a self governing enclave within the wider city[2]. Its northern boundary runs along Lombard Street the boundary with Langbourn Ward, then east down Gracechurch Street the division with Bridge Ward to the Monument, erected to commemorate the place where the Great Fire abated. It’s southern boundary curves along Arthur Street, incorporating traffic from London Bridge to its western edge along Laurence Pountney Lane, Sherbourne Lane and Abchurch Lane in Walbrook. There are two churches within the area( St Mary Abchurch, Abchurch Lane and St Clement Eastcheap at Clement's Lane), while a third St. Michael, Crooked Lane , was demolished in 1831 to make way for the new London Bridge[3]. There are several large stores and pubs, plus one luxury hotel [4]. As with many Wards it has its own social club and newsletter[5].
