Cancer Therapy & Research Center

The Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) is a non-profit NCI-designated cancer research and treatment center located in San Antonio, Texas. CTRC Serves more than 4.4 million people in the high-growth corridor of Central and South Texas including Austin, San Antonio, Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley, it handles over 120,000 patient visits each year. The CTRC Institute for Drug Development (IDD) conducts the largest oncology Phase I clinical drug trials program in the world. Fifteen of the cancer drugs most recently approved by the Food & Drug Administration underwent development or testing at the IDD. CTRC also operates the San Antonio Cancer Institute.

The CTRC was founded in 1974 in San Antonio, Texas as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and freestanding outpatient clinic providing radiation therapy.
On November 14th 2007, the Board of Directors of CTRC and the University of Texas System approved a letter of agreement to formally merge CTRC to the UTHSCSA.
On Dec 17th 2007, the agreement was officially approved by the University of Texas Board of Regents.
