[edit] History

The festival was first known as the Australian International Film Festival, initiated by the University of Canberra Convocation and held from 11 to 13 October 1996.[2] In 1996, it showed 14 films, 12 of which were foreign.[3]

In 1999 the coordination of the festival was taken over by the School of Creative Communication[2] and in 2002 the festival was not held as it was handed over to a non-profit committee funded by the Australian Capital Territory Government.

In 2006, an unrelated Melbourne based Australian International Film Festival was launched.
