Canaleta prison of… Ciego de Avila, Cuba
Canaleta is a top-security prison located in the south side of Ciego de Avila city. It houses more than 3000 inmates and is the main Jail of the province of Ciego de Avila. Four woody barracks were originally build in 1965, but with the increase of the population and the rigorous communist laws the Castro government was force to build a Modern installation that contain a four floor wing, a three floor wing and one mono floor building which operate as cuisine. Outside the wall are the main police vehicle shops, and a pre-construction site that provides material for civil buildings. Another hi-security prison of the province are in Moron, (La Nave) 1000 inmates and low security level or correctional centers are Capote (300 inmates) Nadales I (200 Inmates), Nadales II (200 inmates), Palma Mocha (200 Inmates), Pitajones,(300) Columna 8 (50), Majagua (150). Most of the prisoners of low levels security work on sugar cane plantations and as cattle’s keepers.
