Canadian federal elections have provided the following results in Central Quebec.

[edit] Regional Profile

This area is one that traditionally votes for the Bloc Québécois. In fact, the BQ has won at least seven of its nine seats in each of the last four elections, losing Saint-Maurice in 1997 and 2000 and Portneuf in 2000, which both went Liberal, winning all ridings in 2004, and in 2006 losing only Lotbinière—Chutes-de-la-Chaudière to the Conservatives and Portneuf-Jacques-Cartier to independent candidate André Arthur. Former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien used to represent Saint-Maurice. Before the rise of Mulroney in 1984, this area was traditionally Liberal, except for the Joliette area which is traditionally Conservative (only riding to vote Conservative, or anything other than Liberal in Quebec in 1980), and Lotbiniere which voted Social Credit in 1979. Mulroney's Conservatives swept the area in 1988, and 1984 (except for Chretien's seat). However, in 2004, the Bloc swept the region for the first time before losing ground to the Conservatives in 2006.
