From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Canadian Wildlife Federation, founded in 1962 by the Alberta Fish and Game Association , is one of Canada’s largest nonprofit, non-governmental conservation agencies and advocates the protection of Canada’s wild species and spaces.
The CWF, located in Kanata, Ontario, is dedicated to fostering awareness and enjoyment of our natural world. The CWF inspires Canadians to care about wildlife and the environment, empowers individuals to take action for wildlife through habitat projects across Canada and provides quality materials and programs for educators.
Our objectives include:
- encouraging an understanding of the impact of human activities on the environment;
- promoting the sustainable use of our natural resources, conducting and sponsoring research relating to wildlife and the environment;
- recommending legislative changes to protect wildlife and its habitat; and
- cooperating with organizations and government agencies with similar objectives.

Our WILD About posters series is designed to help you identify species native to Canada and what you can do to attract them to your backyard. Equally, our native plant encyclopedia at Wild About Gardening will assist you in your selection of the perfect plants for your garden.
An abundance of lesson plans and activities are available for educators at Wild Education, covering topics like climate change, watersheds, invasive species and much more.
[edit] National Events
Throughout the year, CWF hosts a variety of celebrations, including National Wildlife Week and Rivers to Oceans Week, to promote action and awareness by communicating with Canadians at festivals, events and online.
NWW is celebrated each year during the week surrounding April 10, the birthday of Jack Miner, one of the founders of Canada's conservation movement. Proclaimed in 1947 by an act of Parliament, NWW is a time for Canadians to celebrate Canada's natural heritage and to play an active role in conservation.
Rivers to Oceans Week – which includes World Oceans Day, June 8, and Canadian Rivers Day, June 10 – highlights the importance of our oceans and rivers and the environmental issues facing them. The week is an opportunity for Canadians and their communities to participate in the restoration, protection and preservation of our oceans and rivers.
