The Canadian Institute of Management is Canada's senior management association. As a non-profit organization, the Institute was established in 1942 and is dedicated to enhancing managerial skills and professional development. Currently, there are 17 branches coast-to-coast with the National Office in Toronto.
The CIM offers the following professional qualifications:
- Certified in Management (C.I.M.)
- Professional Manager (P.Mgr.)
- Chartered Manager (F.CIM)

Chartered Manager is the most senior professional qualification offered by the Canadian Institute of Management. It is abbreviated as F.CIM and used as a post-nominal.
Since its inception the Institute has helped over 55,000 (1553659) managers to develop a broadly based education in management skills with a rich and diversified series of programs from individual courses to professional designation.
The pace of change is accelerating, and with change comes the challenge to adapt and improve. For over 60 years the Canadian Institute of Management has advanced careers and contributed to the field of management knowledge amidst changing times.
As a non-profit association, the Canadian Institute of Management is Canada’s senior management organization dedicated to professional development. As a member or a program participant CIM informs and trains management professionals to be better prepared for the challenge of change.
Vision Statement: The primary purpose of the Canadian Institute of Management is to promote and support CIM designations that will be recognized as a high standard of achievement in management.
Mission Statement: The Canadian Institute of Management is committed to leadership in promoting management professionalism, efficiency, effectiveness and excellence in individuals and organizations.
Aims and Objectives:
Provide a National voice on issues affecting the management process in Canada Serve as the Authority on Canadian management developments Increase awareness of management as a profession Develop and maintain educational programs consistent with the aspirations of our Membership Provide certification to managers across Canada and internationally.
The Institute’s programs are available through many educational institutions in cities across Canada. The programs are also available in a variety of forms and structures: National accredited study programs offered through universities and colleges International recognition of individual achievement Contract with practicing management professionals Local branch activities and services including workshops and seminars
Self-study programs for maximum flexibility
The qualification is awarded on the basis of completion of 20 academic courses offered through the Canadian Institute of Management or through completion of a Master of Business Administration degree or Ph.D. degree in Business or Management.
