The Canada national rugby team usually refers to the rugby union team, which is the more well-known and competitive side. Use of the word rugby without qualification in Canada is almost always a reference to rugby union.
Rugby league is only sparsely played in Canada. Although there is a national rugby league team, it has yet to win a game.
