Canada-United States Permanent Joint Board on Defence

The Canada-United States Permanent Joint Board on Defence was created in 1940 as the senior advisory body on continential military defence of North America. The Board is comprised of military and diplomatic representatives from both Canada and the United States. The board, which is co-chaired by a Canadian and an American, meets semi-annually, alternating between either country.
