Canaan Township is a township in Wayne County, Pennsylvania, United States.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 19.2 square miles (49.7 km²), of which, 18.4 square miles (47.7 km²) of it is land and 0.8 square miles (2.0 km²) of it (4.07%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,916 people, 309 households, and 237 families residing in the township. The population density was 104.1 people per square mile (40.2/km²). There were 369 housing units at an average density of 20.1/sq mi (7.7/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 71.71% White, 20.67% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.63% Asian, 6.94% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.10% of the population.
There were 309 households out of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.1% were married couples living together, 6.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.3% were non-families. 19.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the township the population was spread out with 10.2% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 48.4% from 25 to 44, 29.2% from 45 to 64, and 7.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 387.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 479.5 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $37,614, and the median income for a family was $41,750. Males had a median income of $21,986 versus $19,632 for females. The per capita income for the township was $15,460. About 2.1% of families and 3.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.8% of those under age 18 and 1.7% of those age 65 or over.
