[edit] History
Can-Am Speedway was built in 1974 by Leslie W. Brown. The facility immediately fell into financial difficulty. In 1975, the track was purchased by Bob Thurston Sr., Douglas Atkinson, and Thomas A Coughlin 3rd, who then relocated the operations of the Watertown Speedway.[1] In 1981, Thurston bought out his two partners, and continued operation of the speedway until 2000. In 1983 Can-Am was sanctioned by the DIRT Motorsports organization. [2]
In 2001, the speedway was purchased by John Wight. In 2003 season Wight changed the primary class to the Big Blocks Modifieds. Ownership changed again later that year, and on August 2nd, 2003 Charlie, and Billy Caprara of Watertown purchased the speedway
