"Can't Stop the River" is a song written by Seal. The song was first recorded by British singer Louise Setara at the age of sixteen, however, she was not able to release the song as a single until she was eighteen. Her version was released on 27 November 2006 as her debut single and the song later appeared on her debut album Still Waters in 2006 in the U.S. and 2007 in the UK.
Before Setara could release her version, however, the song was covered and released as the third single by former Blue member Duncan James. It was the second single from his debut album Future Past and was re-titled "Can't Stop a River". The single was released on August 21, 2006 and entered at #59 in the UK and #57 in Ireland, making it the lowest-charting single by any former Blue member and leading to James being released from his record contract. Guy Sebastian's version was released as an album track on October 28, 2006 on Closer To The Sun.
