CANYON.MID is a MIDI file created by Passport Designs that ships with Microsoft Windows version 3.1 through Windows Me. It is found along with PASSPORT.MID in the C:\WINDOWS\MEDIA
directory where sound files used for Windows events (e.g. alert beeps, startup sounds, etc.) are stored. Since it is present on all Windows 3.1, 95, 98 and Me installations, it has achieved a certain degree of recognition among users, and has been used as an example MIDI file in many computer publications and websites, for example the Microsoft Knowledge Base. [1] [2] In Windows 3.1, CANYON.MID plays much more slowly than in later Windows releases. It was also used as fanfare in some Windows Entertainment Pack games, such as Chip's Challenge.
