I have two requests for people coming here:

  • If you intend to revert personal attacks could you please use the {{subst:unsigned|user name|date}} template instead.
  • If you are here to complain about something I deleted could you please tell me the name of the article that you are talking about. If you do I will respond but if you don't I will ignore you.

Thanks. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 16:20, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My User Page

Thanks for every time you have reverted the repeated vandalism on my user page. It is most appreciated, since it is usually during my off-Wiki hours. (And, whoever this vandal is... s/he needs to a) find a new hobby and/or b) come up with some new material. :P) --Kinu t/c 16:38, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Question

As of right now, the NWT is the only province or territory in Canada that doesn't have occupational subcategories within Category:Canadian musicians by province or territory or Category:Canadian writers by province or territory, but I did a cursory run through Category:People from Northwest Territories and didn't find anyone who could be filed in either new category if I were to create them. Do you know offhand of any NWT writers or musicians who already have articles? One for each would be great...two, three or four would be even better. Bearcat (talk) 22:11, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Good Morning

I do apologize for my rudeness. I'm getting real frustrated with that other user who keeps spamming my contribution to the article.

Is there anything that can be done about it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.126.179.116 (talk) 10:22, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Near as I can figure, I indefblocked a user the other day who registered a name like Olaf15O, and who then proceeded to stalk and harass Olaf750. If this is revenge, I'm unimpressed. Thanks for reverting that little gem. UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 18:21, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] John Phillip Sousa Junior High School

Hi, thanks for responding about my request to speedy-delete John Phillip Sousa Junior High School, although you declined to execute it. I wonder if you could explain to me how it helps to have the redirect from incorrect spelling available. I have never understood why incorrect spellings are left as redirects. If I am correct, the redirect serves no purpose for someone who types in a search for the miss-spelled name. If the redirect is not there, a person's search will find their way to the correct spelling anyhow, as the first suggested option. Having the redirect, however, serves to confirm to them, seemingly, that the miss-spelling is valid, which is not a good thing. Also, for anyone editing a wikilink, I would think it is better to show them a red-link so they get the feedback that it is a miss-spelling, also. Perhaps I am not understanding something here, about how redirects help or hurt. If you could clarify for me, I would appreciate it. If not, or otherwise, have a nice day anyhow. :) doncram (talk) 03:42, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Kayaking & Kayak reverted?

Hi! Just wondering why you reverted the inclusion of KayakPaddling.net to Kayaking-page & Kayak-page? Now there can be La Vida Laguna (advertisement about commercial service) and many different sites that have zero-value for most because they are location specific. But no place for a kayaking tutorial?

[edit] Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador

Your edits on Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor and Twillingate were great and I was just looking at different NL articles and found the Mount Pearl one. Yeah, not exactly the best. [edit] Move the search box directly beneath the puzzle globe

Just curious but why would it be hard for the eldery? Though I must say that I found the comment along with the featured article rather funny. Thanks for the chuckle. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 05:23, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome for the chuckle ;-) - it seems to me that older people have a harder time looking at a web page, breaking it down, and identifying the part of the page that they actually want to use. By placing the search box in a much more visible location, it should make it easier for the elderly to find it. It's also easier for people who read more slowly and blind people who have to use screen readers. —Remember the dot (talk) 03:59, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] deletion of John A Macdonald material

[edit] Massive deletion of John A Macdonald material

I'm wondering if you deleted about half the article on John A Macdonald on May 21/08 at 21:22. The sections on his early life, professional career and personal life have been deleted with no reason given. The section on reference books has been pretty well gutted as well. If you are responsible for this, I'm wondering why you did it. I contributed a lot to this entry, but most of that material is gone. I've left a note complaining about the deletions on the article discussion page. Bwark (talk) 19:24, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks so much for fixing this. I feel so much better! Thanks again. Bwark (talk) 22:21, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

You are welcome. Meanwhile, I've been having a great time unveiling the mysteries of your user page. Life is supposed to be interesting, yours seems to be. Einar, aka Carptrash (talk) 20:38, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Well it worked. It would cheapen the Thumbs Up Award (if that is possible?) by awarding you two in 20 minutes or so, but your approach has definitely got me interested. Of course my bass players (for example) would be Hannes Kvaran and Dave Stanton and currently Roger Chilton, so not quite as interesting. Still . . . . . . . .................. maybe? Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 20:54, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Well I suspect that every place I've lived has an article already, thus will be in blue, but my bass players, while being fine musicians will probably remain red for a while - unless being the third hippie to move into Northern NM it note worthy? I've had a lot more important stuff (opinion) deleted to mess with that. Actually I am taking a longish wikisulk and am not yet ready to generate another User Page for myself. But your model is an appealing one, for sure. Carptrash (talk) 17:55, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Help me

Hello CambridgeBayWeather, I am writing to you since you were kind enough to welcome me to the world of wikipedia and I am hoping that you could help me out. I have got myself into a conflict and it has got to the stage where a user who I now believe is a troll has made some personal attacks against myself, including adding my personal information onto talk pages without my consent (which of course they vehemently deny). Would it be possible for you to look at the page Talk:Sumo#Sumo in the arts and assess the situation and advise me on the appropriate action I should take. I am quite upset about the situation which is why I am contacting you. Thank you, Jdrewitt (talk) 22:01, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Specifically, they added my personal name here, which they then claimed was a quote from a film, I would say it is a bit too coincidental for that though. With that information and my user name they somebody could quite easily find information about my real identity on the web (It is archived on my user page history but I took it off since I decided it wasn't a good idea to have it there). Somebody else has sorted out the talk:Sumo page now and removed the personal attacks, which is a good thing, so I will take it off my watch list and stay out of it. I shouldn't have got involved! Thanks. Jdrewitt (talk) 07:45, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] IP's edits

I notice you left a message on Special:Contributions/82.110.181.125's talk page regarding the Galician edits, which received no reply. I partially reverted one such edit just made, and noticed many such in a short timespan. I'm not familiar with Galicia and don't want to get involved in a disruptive situation, so I'm passing the buck, hoping you have a better idea. :) Toliar (talk) 05:01, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you! And somehow I completely missed the earlier section on that talk page mentioning two previous blocks for the same actions, which would've helped explain that they're considered definitely POV-pushing, and not merely controversial. Toliar (talk) 14:33, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I am Modak Sarda, a student at "Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies". I had recently updated the article on "Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies" as the old data was wrong and misleading for the readers.

But then to my great shock, the article has been removed and the old one reverted. I agree that the material has been taken from our College Prospectus, but then I can certify that I am responsible for updating the information on the college!!!

Please reply as soon as possible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Modaksarda (talkcontribs) 16:30, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] User page

I just saw the banner on your user page yesterday while on a computer that hadn't upgraded to IE7. You might also want to add a bit about IE7 having problems showing the pages correctly as well. Quite often if an image is placed below an infobox in the opening there will be a large amount of whitespace seen with either version of IE. Sometimes the amount of whitespace is large enough to ensure that the text does not appear on the screen without scrolling down (17 in monitor).

By the way Firefox has a couple of minor problems. Unlike IE Firefox correctly formats the {{reflist|2}}. Now if that is combined with a bare http references, it causes this, even on a 19 in monitor, but it's an easy fix by using [] and a title. This is the only other time I've seen Firefox have trouble with a page, caused by putting the images in a table, but I suspect that no browser can cope with that properly. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 17:07, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Firefox has some other rendering problems as well, for example failure to support inline-block which Internet Explorer has supported pretty much forever. It also has some quite nasty memory leaks. Firefox 3 resolves these issues (although the minor ones you brought up are still there), so once FF3 is officially released, I will have a solid basis for telling people to ditch IE altogether. I still think Firefox 2 is overall better than IE7, but it's a harder sell.
By the way, I haven't recommended Opera because its user interface has a scroll button quirk that annoys me and it doesn't come with spell check. But its standards-compliance is great! —Remember the dot (talk) 00:24, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] your fleur-de-lis edit (thanks) and "Funky" redirect

Hi Cambridge,

about Fleur de lis: thanks, of course you are right, sorry.

Since I'm pretty new to Wikipedia, maybe you can advise me on something? I noticed that "Funky" redirects to "Taco Bell". There is probably some reference that I just don't understand, but it may as well simply be vandalism (I do seem to sense a joke there somewhere, and I noticed that the Taco Bell article itself is locked). I didn't want to delete the redirect as maybe I'm just missing something and don't want to do damage.

thank you ciao Giulit Giulit (talk) 13:00, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Kitikmeotery

Thanks for the gentle nudge... I'd been meaning to houseclean after waiting a day or two for the "what links here" to unrecognize stuff that it tended to cache from the {{Nunavut}} template, and, well, "a day or two" became "several months." Isn't it always that way with drudgey tasks? ;)

I'm pretty sure all the content from the deleted page has been transferred and merged, but if I'm missing something I certainly wouldn't object in the slightest to you making sure it was reflected on Kitikmeot Region, Nunavut.
