this article fails to explain camphene's contribution to the alternative fuel market during the peak of whale oil usage during the mid-1800's (1840-1860???)
Lovins and Co reference camphene and claim it contributed 10% of the market of lighting energy. If true, that would make camphene far more relatively significant than our current alternative energies like wind, solar and so forth Winning the Oil Endgame, Lovins, et al. http://www.rmi.org/images/PDFs/Bookstore/WtOEg_InnoForProfit.pdf
i would suggest expanding the entry on camphene and perhaps linking it to other alternative energy fuel source articles to help readers understand historical developments in alternative energies
it is not clear how 1850's camphene was prepared? was is ethanol from brewing/ distilling then added to turpentine from timber production???
I don't have the expertise in this area or I would attempt to answer these questions
