Talk:Camp Sunshine
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is definitly a worthwhile organization. I have worked with them before, and I must say, it was the most touching experience of my life. Feel free to help out in the creation of this article. Streetsabre 04:45, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
Problem: this article only talks about the first Camp Sunshine, but there are now many in the country. I volunteer at one myself, and am slightly disappointed that the other camps are not recognized. Also, the camp I volunteer at is not overnight, down't seperate campers by disorder, and is located in Maine, though everything else is the same, except the all important fact that the one I work at and a lot of others are not for life-threatening diseases, but mental/physical disorders. Also, unrelated to what I just wrote, I think there should be more developement on the other Camp Sunshines, for if they have the same name, they must be related, and even not, where are they going to have their own pages if they share a title with eachother? They should be recognized and appreciated, not left in the dust, because they help people too, I'm pretty sure. --Divya da animal lvr 23:19, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
- If it can be expanded to include information about the entire organization, that would be great! I will expand the article to include the new branches as soon as I get works that can be cited effectively. However, don't let that stop you from adding what you know. [edit] Fixing "its own full-time organization"
_ _ The article said
- Since then, the camp has grown into its own full-time organization.
Inside a comment, i began
- Wha? Removed "full-time": If that means "year-round" (unlikely) the term and lk are unsuitable.
by which i meant that Full time and "full-time" are about employment (or formal education), and and do not mean "year-round". (I thot that operating the camp year-round in Maine, where global warming has made little progress, was a farfetched plan. Actually, http://www.campsunshine.org/ says that the program is year-round, and i'm putting that where "full-time" had been.)
_ _ I continued
- If the lk is accurate it would be contrasting with camps with part-time staff??
by which i meant the almost inevitably full-time status of the staff is not of interest: it goes w/o saying.
_ _ I finished my in-line comment with
- In any case, what does "own" mean?
and their Annual Report answers that; further chgs reflect that & more.

[edit] Dr.
The camp's history page describes Gould as "retired ... Chairman and CEO of M/A-Com, Inc., a Fortune 500 company". In the absence of evidence to overcome the presumption, based on M/A-COM, that his degree is a non-medical doctorate in physics, engineering, economics, or management, i'm removing the title "Dr.", which is contrary to WP usage for others than MDs (and, i suppose, ODs, etc).

[edit] Facilities
A Google-map/satellite view discloses that not everything on their official map has been implemented; cite it with care.
