Talk:Camp Ozark
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The person with the IP address 38.114.194.214 has been constantly deleting the "Sam Schubert" section of this article, I have a feeling they are affilated with Camp Ozark. The Author of this section has verifiable sources.
I attended the camp when I was younger, and was there the year that Sam Schubert died. I'm not against an inclusion of the incident in the article, but when I went back a couple of edits to see the "'Sam Chubert' section of [the] article", it didn't seem fair, well cited, or accurate, to me. "The river that the trip was on contained a hazard that had been consciously overlooked by Torn. Earlier in the summer a tree had fallen across the river, that and the excess flooding, created a deadly situation for young inexperianced canoers. The week before Sams accident several kids were almost killed but the tree was still not removed." None of this is cited. There's a later reference to Sam Torn saying that Schubert's death had no impact on him, which is also not cited, and which I do not believe to be true. I recall extra safety precautions being taken the next year, and know from having a sister who was a Camp Ozark counseler that Sam really didn't mess around when it came to safety training. If there's going to be a section in this article about the death of Sam Schubert, it should be cited and should be written objectively. I guess I'm not completely impartial, but Camp Ozark is a good camp, Sam Torn is a good man, and when it comes down to it, over 50+ years of a wide range of outdoor activities... it's tragic, but a kid dying doesn't mean that someone in the equation is a criminal, or deserves to be lambasted without citation via open source dictionary. Outdoor activities are dangerous, there's only so much you can do, and accidents are bound to happen. Personally, I remember Sam being torn up about this tragedy, as well as having camp counselors praying around the clock for Sam.
At any rate, if Schubert's going to be in the article, that's fine, but make it neutral POV, please. It's a good, safe, camp. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.177.39.250 (talk) 06:44, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
