[edit] History
As the era of federal support and management of the Internet came to a close, it became apparent that a new national infrastructure was needed to deliver next-generation software applications and technologies. In 2003, a group of 14 leading research universities from across the United States including Case Western University, Kansas State University, Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Montana, and Rochester Institute of Technology formed the CampusEAI Consortium as a not-for-profit corporation to act as a parent organization for all CEAI-related initiatives. In the beginning, a dozen employees from these founding institutions came to CEAI to jumpstart efforts to create new reusable software for their universities. In 2005, after establishing a sustainable organization structure including an executive committee to shepherd CEAI’s efforts, CEAI expanded to add other peer universities from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, The Ohio State University, Yale University, and the University of Michigan, McGill University, the University of Exeter, and the University of Melbourne. CEAI continues to expand to take on new challenges for new clients and evolve to meet the changing needs of its members by providing top-notch engineers experienced in a wide range of technologies.
