From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Campen Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Germany, located by the Ems estuary, northwest of Emden. Campen Lighthouse is 65.3 metres tall and is very remarkable for its structural type, which consists of a free-standing lattice tower with the stair shaft inside. Campen Lighthouse was built in 1889 and went in service in 1891. The lamp of Campen Lighthouse belongs with a light intensity of 4.5 million candelas to the most powerful lighthouses in Germany. The range of its light is approximately 55 kilometres. Remarkably, the aperture of its light has an angle of only 0.3 degrees. The machine building contains the oldest workable diesel engine in Germany. It was built in 1906 and has a power of 15 kilowatts.
