Winona Camps for Boys was founded in Bridgton, Maine, in 1908 by Phil Cobb. It is currently owned and operated by the Ordway family, a family in the Maine community which has connections with the Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine.
Winona is a camp for boys located on the shores of Moose Pond. The camp is rich with tradition, and it holds a reputation in the camp community. Most of its campers are between the ages of 7 and 15. They are split into three units: Junior (7-10 year olds), Intermediate (10-13 year olds), and Senior (13-15/16 year olds). The majority of its staff consists of college students with previous camp experience and graduates from their Counselor-in-Training program (16 years old). It has one of the highest staff retention rates in the region,[citation needed] and is affiliated with Wyonegonic Camps For Girls. Winona celebrated its 100th anniversary the summer of 2007. The Bat is a long standing tradition at Winona. The campers chase him and if they can unmask him and name him at the next meal they will get a free summer on the shores of Moose Pond. The Bat is a different counselor each year and has never been caught.
