Camelot Addict

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Camelot Addict is a webcomic based on the MMORPG Dark Age of Camelot, written and drawn by Eri Izawa (signing as "Rei"), who is also a professional computer game designer (ironically specializing in MMORPGs, but wholly unaffiliated with EA Mythic/Mythic Entertainment). Camelot Addict first appeared on April 15th, 2003. It is generally published 3 times per week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). The format utilizes one panel, two panel, or three panel comic formats whose subject matter is usually drawn from the artist's experiences in game, and/or from suggestions sent in by other players and readers. Occasionally, the subject matter forays into spoofing the world of game development or gaming in general. The comic sometimes features broad, overarching themes that play out for weeks and sometimes months. Many of them find humor in bringing game situations to "real life" ("RL"), or exploring what happens when real life and game world intersect.

Although the comic originally started on the side of detailed art; when the artist's employment status changed, the style rapidly devolved into stick figures and other types of simplified figures. Occasionally, the artist strays into manga or anime style, or, occasionally, "American style" cartoon forms. While there is a small and dedicated following, there have been no "guest strips" or collaboration with other online comics.

Almost all art material is created in Photoshop; web pages are hand-edited in emacs using primitive HTML.

Not only does the site contain the webcomic, there are also collections of "Leadership Resources" and the author's Random Thoughts. Most of the Leadership Resources are tied to Dark Age of Camelot, although there are some non-DAoC related links. The Random Thoughts are basically a personal blog of Eri Izawa dealing with just about anything. This section has not been updated recently (at time of edit, last update was November 19th, 2006).

The comic is available at Camelot Addict.
