Camden is a town in Wilcox County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 2,257. The city is the county seat of Wilcox County[1].

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 2,257 people, 868 households, and 584 families residing in the town. The population density was 533.7 people per square mile (206.0/km²). There were 965 housing units at an average density of 228.2/sq mi (88.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 54.23% African American, 45.28% White, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% from other races, and 0.31% from two or more races. 0.53% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 868 households out of which 35.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.6% were married couples living together, 27.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% were non-families. 31.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the town the population was spread out with 29.1% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 18.3% who were 65 years ofla age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 78.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 71.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $25,750, and the median income for a family was $28,854. Males had a median income of $35,625 versus $20,735 for females. The per capita income for the town was $14,272. About 31.4% of families and 33.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 43.3% of those under age 18 and 29.6% of those age 65 or over.
