Thanks for all of the comments you make. Please be aware that if you would like a personal response, to let me know in the body of the text so I may contact you.

Please do not use this page to conduct discussion of my edits on specific pages, except to link to relevant discussion on the talk page of that specific page. I have a policy of conducting all discussion about articles on the talk page of that article. If you post a comment on my user talk page about a particular article, I will not respond here but in the talk page of the article in question (unless the changes are minor, in which case I will just make the changes without any additional discussion). [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Ao693-MichelleAlves HBazaarUS.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Ao693-MichelleAlves HBazaarUS.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. Abu Badali 13:47, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 3RR

(just a friendly warning:) Please be mindful of WP:3RR. I believe you're getting close to a violation of it. –Tifego(t) 03:37, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] UCRGrad

Hi, I made a user subpage for preparation, and I propose we use its talk page for any further discussion about this. –Tifego(t) 04:19, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Also, I'm not really sure what to make of the warning at the top of this talk page, but... feel free to delete any of the comments I've made here so far, as they were intended only to bring something to your attention (not to start a discussion here). –Tifego(t) 04:23, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

The purpose of that is to permit me to bring issues of general interest which are sometimes addressed ONLY to me directly to be brought back to other readers of the talk page so that "side conversations" of interest to the rest of the talk page are brought back in an open forum instead of being conversations behind someone's back. Clearly, though, this doesn't apply here. Calwatch 04:47, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edit summaries

I appreciate that you use edit summaries, but I urge you to be a bit more communicative. Large deletions and additions perhaps deserve more description than "various changes". It means more work for your fellow editors trying to figure out what the changes actually were. Cheers, -Will Beback 08:08, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template: CBS

Hey there. Your idea about creating a page to list all the CBS Radio stations so that we can take them out of the template is a good one. I've started the work on List of broadcast stations owned by CBS Radio and would love it if you could help me out with it. Thanks! Lambertman 19:11, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Requests for unprotection

Several articles you have mentioned unprotection in (all in this very day) were touched by the same stalker/vandal. I would like to inquire as to by what method you happened onto all of these in the same time frame (i.e. whether there is a list you are scanning) and what your potential interests are regarding content in those articles. Please reply here. Thanks. 151.205.40.71 04:01, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

It's called Category:Protected pages, and I have done this before. I will remind you of WP:AGF and my edit logs and summaries should speak for themselves. Further discussion will be conducted in Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_page_protection per my disclaimer above. Calwatch 04:43, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Why resort to being terse? I simply asked a question. Surely you can understand one's caution on this matter. 151.205.40.71 04:47, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
I am naturally going to be very suspicious of a user who has never made any edits prior to today asking questions that require a high degree of knowledge about how wikipedia works. If you wish to ask questions and you are an admin or even a registered user, please feel free to do so with your username. As noted above, the discussion will be moved to the Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_page_protection page, where I started a blurb about my criteria. Calwatch 04:57, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
It appears that it is you who is not assuming good faith, then. I did not remark on the RFPP page because I am not interested in individual protection/unprotection but rather an editor who correlates material from the same dispute. I did not accuse you of anything. I merely asked how you came upon several of them. All you had to do was respond that you regularly scan the category that you mentioned. You seem to have a misunderstanding of anonymous IPs. These do not at all imply that a user has merely begun to edit upon the first in the list. If they are all recent, and the user is familiar with Wiki norms, this means they are likely editing with a dynamic IP, as opposed to static IPs, which are unchanging and hence accumulate many edits. As for the fact that I am editing anonymously, you might think that the first comment regarding a "stalker/vandal" might give some indication as to why. People are allowed to edit anonymously, whether they have accounts or not. It would be better if many people did not act as if this were not true. 151.205.40.71 05:04, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
To all reading, I have made comments to User talk:151.205.40.71 to wrap up this discussion. Calwatch 05:32, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

If the Arabs of Khuzestan page is unprotected, then it will need some intervention from a neutral party. I have tried to put forward several sources to ensure that the estimated range of Arab population is broader than that proposed by some editors, but have been over-ruled and called a separatist and more derogatory comments. Some believe that UN and Amnesty International officials are liars and anti-Iranian for suggesting the Arab population is a majority in the province and number up to 4.5 million. They don't want to accept any mention of higher figures, perhaps for political reasons.--الأهواز 10:08, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

I suggest to Yakhi Ahwaz that he does not make accusations or attacks other people here on Wikipedia. The article is terrible but it does not help to put in lies that Arabs are majority when most sources do not say this. Khorshid 05:21, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
I suggest that the parties move towards mediation, editing a consensus version in someone's userspace, or something similar. Three months is a really really long time for protection. Has anyone tried to ask for mediation? A straw poll? See WP:DR and WP:MEDCABAL for some intermediate steps should you decide that mediation is not necessary. I will check back in a week to see if things have progressed. (By the way, per the policy above, please keep the discussion on the talk page so everyone can read it. Thanks.) Calwatch 05:29, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
I am afraid there is no solution here. The editors are claiming that anyone who suggests Arabs are a majority in Khuzestan are liars, even when the estimate is made by UN officials! It is rich for Khorshid to accuse me of personal attacks when he has been going around people's talk pages to generate a critical mass of Iranian editors to mass revert me [1] - and yet refuses to participate on talk pages on these matters (so much for "good faith"). I doubt anyone will talk and that this will end up being another revert war, a trend that has afflicted numerous Iran-related articles.--الأهواز 09:01, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Protected redirects

OK, that sounds like it might be a good idea. Personally I disagree. But you should propose it at the village pump or on the category talk page to gauge consensus. If a new category is created we can run a script on the database dump to find all of the protected redirects and put them in the new category.--Commander Keane 05:31, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RFARB filed against UCRGrad

Please consider adding a statement here [2] if you are still at all concerned with this.--Amerique 17:01, 22 June 2006 (UTC) Hello Calwatch,

Hey, could you help me gather more evidence showing how prior steps in dispute resolution could not work in this case? Morven seems to be a reasonable man, maybe if we presented more evidence in a better outlined fashion we could convince him that resolution steps requiring good faith are impossible in this case.--Amerique 00:52, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] KNBC reversion

I have reverted your reversion of my edit. I have responded to your statement on the talk page. If you feel the section of WP:NOT is not relevant in this case I encourage you to suggest a modification of that policy. - Amgine 04:29, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Doutzenkroes.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Doutzenkroes.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Image:Noemie lenoir.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Noemie lenoir.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 17:13, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Aoltw.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. I was going through User:Messedrocker/Unreferenced_BLPs/14 (insert shameless plug for help here...), didn't even notice that I hit a bad version of the page or I would have put back the bit that keeps disappearing. Also, if you could find a good source (I've only been able to find blog entries, unfortunately) for the bit about the university policies, that would be great--seems a good addition to the article, if verifiable. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Aoltw.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Aoltw.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. [edit] Casey Serin

I have to disagree with your attempt to delete the Casey Serin entry on wikipedia. His national media exposure, characterized by USA TODAY as the "poster child" of the ongoing US Housing Bubble Burst, makes his entry and inclusion onto wikipedia important. Far too many of us spent far too many hours cleaning up his entry to make it acceptable to wikipedia standards for it to be deleted. Please reconsider your viewpoint. It is my personal opinion that his story is far from over with(JerichoHill), given the legal ramifications on his taxes, ongoing personal problem, and potential civil/criminal actions. We will not know for years how this ends. You may contact me on my talk page--149.101.1.127 14:32, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Allthingsconsidered.gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. [edit] Blogs as a reliable source

You may "think that Green Papers is perfectly acceptable" as a source, but Wikipedia guidelines do not agree with you concerning blogs (see here). →Wordbuilder (talk) 06:18, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

"Self-published material may, in some circumstances, be acceptable when produced by an established expert on the topic of the article whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable third-party publications."
Green Papers is reliable because it has been cited in mainstream media. Bloomberg, Washington Post, and the Kansas City Star are reliable newspapers. [4] Therefore, I will continue reverting up to the 3RR limit, and encourage others to do so. Calwatch (talk) 06:36, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of List of shopping malls in the United States

An editor has nominated List of shopping malls in the United States, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of shopping malls in the United States (3rd nomination) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 22:02, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ashley Alexandra Dupré

There seems to be a clear consensus here that she's notable indeed. With your permission, I would like to close this discussion as a keep per WP:DPR#NAC and WP:SNOW -- the subject of the article clearly meets notability guidelines. Fair enough, go ahead and close it. Calwatch (talk) 02:04, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed deletion of Bill Wattenburg

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Bill Wattenburg, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rtphokie (talk) 01:43, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:CA OCR.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:CA OCR.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

The following images also have this problem:
