I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!
Sorry you're having a hard time with the images. I assume that you're clicking that little image button in the top left of the edit window, which gives you [[Image:Example.jpg]]. You have to replace the "Image.jpg" with the name of the image you want to use and then format it according to the Wikipedia:Picture tutorial. Assuming that you're trying to get that calvin and hobbes image onto your user page, I'm sorry to say that users can't put fair use images in their personal user space. See Wikipedia:User page for more. Basically, "fair use" of copyrighted images only works if we put it in articles, and not if it is being used in personal space. Ask on my talk page if you have any questions on this. Cheers, BanyanTree 19:43, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

- Also, you have to upload an image to Wikipedia before it can be used in a Wikipedia page. It looks like you're trying to link to an image on your own hard drive. This will never work in Wikipedia, and if we somehow changed the software so it did, it would still be visible only to you.
Since you're not allowed to upload copyrighted pictures, you could use one we already have on the site. Here's an image for you. Feel free to cut and paste it to your user page.-gadfium 23:19, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

- Just because it's already uploaded to Wikipedia does not mean it's fair use on his user or talk page. Ziggur 02:13, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, Ziggur is right. That was bad advice I gave you.-gadfium 08:27, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- I guess that means I have no pictures of Calvin to put on my page. --Calvinsupergenius 18:14, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Talk pages
In regards to - Talk:Shar Pei Please stop, the purpose of article talk pages page is to discuss the article and how it can be changed, if there are objections to the content, or to determine the best course of changes to the article. It is not meant to be "filled up" with general discussion about the Shar Pei dog. This talk page is blank because no one has at yet had any concerns about the article itself. I would suggest reading Wikipedia:Talk_page to understand what talk pages are for. You may also wish to look at the talk page guidelines - Trysha (talk) 20:55, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your question about removal and editing as anon user
You wrote: You can't just remove an accusion of pupetry like that! If I accuse you, I accuse you.--Calvinsupergenius 16:34, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- I honestly have no clue what you're talking about. I've had no dealings with any discussions regarding puppetry. If you could point out what you thought had been removed and where, I'd be glad to explain to you who did it and why, assuming I can figure it out from the page history (which you also should be able to do). Elf | Talk 17:22, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I figured it out. As anonymous user 205.202.240.104, you added a sockpuppet notice to my user page, which was reverted by another user because (a) it was by an anonymous user who was also vandalizing other pages and (b) had no evidence to support it. If you'd like to contribute to the content of the encyclopedia in a useful way, please do. Otherwise, please stop being disruptive. Elf | Talk 18:12, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:200px-Calvin_and_Hobbes_Original.png
Thanks for uploading Image:200px-Calvin_and_Hobbes_Original.png. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. --OrphanBot 09:57, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- OrphanBot is not a Wikipedia user; it's a bot who's job it is to ask people who upload images to put a copyright notice on them. I imagine that the bot's owner will see your message on its talk page but the bot isn't clever enough to understand it itself.
- The problem that OrphanBot is pointing out is nothing to do with your display of the image; only that you were the one to upload it. Your image is actually a copy of one we already have, so I suggest you add the following text to it:
- {{db|duplicate of [[Image:Calvin and Hobbes Original.png]], uploaded by me as a test}}
- Alternatively, do nothing and it will be deleted eventually, although you'll save people time by putting the db notice on it.-gadfium 18:48, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Call off your bot!
your bot gave me a message about putting a picture on my page that I deleted a month ago, and Gadfium told me that it was going to delete my page if I didn't do something soon. Yor bot is malfuntioning!--Calvinsupergenius 19:08, 26 January 2006 (UTC)
- OrphanBot does not delete images or pages. The warning was that an administrator is likely to delete the image soon if adequate source and copyright information is not provided. --Carnildo 05:24, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] something new
Since I don't know how to post stuff on the front page disscusion and not have it deleted by some obnoxious moderator and called nonsense, I will post it here. I will talk about out of the ordinary, hard to belive subjects. --Calvinsupergenius 17:01, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Also, anything that I'm interested in.--Calvinsupergenius 16:48, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] awile ago?
Some scientists about last year found a new species of spider with a nasty venom, the Loxosceles reclusa, or brown recluse. Suprisingly, they already have a page on it already. Click on the link for more info on the venom and etc. --Calvinsupergenius 17:01, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
- That's not a newly discovered species of spider. Our article says it was given its binomial name in 1940, and it may well have been known earlier than that. Perhaps it's just spread into your area last year?-gadfium 23:18, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
-
- You may be right. After all, my friend told me it was just discovered. I don't know how he could be that inacurate. Great, I just screwed this whole thing up! --Calvinsupergenius 20:06, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
- No, you've participated in a demonstration of the power of Wikipedia to correct misinformation.-gadfium 01:05, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] last month
Scientists have discovered that herring actually communicate by releasing flachulants. No, I'm not kidding. It's been proven. You could probably check Tom Beca's page at http://kfab.com/main.html
[edit] Don't Touch
Please leave this image be, I'm keeping it here untill I can access my server.
Bar Ores required Level
Bronze 1 Tin ore, 1 Copper ore 1 Iron 1 Iron ore (50% chance of success) 15 Silver 1 Silver 20 Steel 2 Coal, 1 Iron ore 30 Gold 1 Gold 40 Mithril 4 Coal, 1 Mithril ore 50 Adamant 6 Coal, 1 Adamantite ore 70 Runite 8 Coal, 1 Runite ore 85
O.K., that didn't work well.
- That looks like Runescape to me. Have you seen Portal:RuneScape?
- Are you trying to create a table above? Try adding to this:
Bar | Ores required | Level |
---|---|---|
Bronze | 1 Tin ore, 1 Copper ore | 1 |
Iron | 1 Iron ore (50% chance of success) | 15 |
See also m:Help:Table. I have to refer to it every time I create a table, even though I've been on Wikipedia for ages.-gadfium 21:31, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
Thank you, Gadfium!!!--Calvinsupergenius 19:24, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
So, you play runescape?
well, anyway, a chart isn't what I wanted, at least not that kind. It dosen't look cool. the aim was to have it look like this, ummm, actually, I copied the chart and put it on a word document, and I don't know how to put it on here. Can you help?
- I used to play RuneScape, but I haven't logged in for months. I'm happy to help you with Wiki syntax, but this is getting a bit too far away from building Wikipedia.-gadfium 22:05, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

- So, you'll help!!! How do I get a word document or a link to a word document?--Calvinsupergenius 16:43, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Annoyed
Man, they've struck again. You know how sometimes you get a dollar bill that stamped and says "track me at wheresbush.com"? Well, I got one, and when I try to get something from the vending machine, it rejects it because its stamped.--Calvinsupergenius 16:59, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Help Is Here
How may I help you? (Arundhati Bakshi (talk • contribs)) 19:57, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
- How would you put a link to a word document somewhere on wikipedia, Maybe tou could tell me where to look on Meta-wiki where to make a chart with pictures added to it.
- If the link is on an external website, you can just use uit as you would an external link, as in: [http://www.somesite.com/MyDoc.doc My Document]. If you want to upload it to Wikipedia as an image file, you will have to turn it to a PDF file first and then delcare what kind of license it uses . . . if it is a public domain license, I suggest uploadng it t Wikipedia Commons . . . I have an example in my Biosteel entry. Then you would just link to it like I did there. (Arundhati Bakshi (talk • contribs)) 20:35, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Strange Circulation
Look here at http://www.weather.com/maps/news/normalweather/usinfraredsatellite_large.html and you will see a strange, hurricane-like circullation in Minnisota. Something wierd is going on.--Calvinsupergenius 15:07, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- It seems to be gone now.--Calvinsupergenius 14:35, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] sub-sections
You were getting subsections in the table of contents for this page because one of the headings further up had only single "=" signs on each side of it. Main headings are supposed to have two, and minor headings three or more. I've fixed it for you.-gadfium 01:46, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
