The final comment for the song saying there was a reference to the moon landing being fake is incorrect, it's actually just a reference to star trek which should be obvious enough considering the slogan for the show was "Space, the final frontier" and the lyrics were "Space may be the final frontier but it's made in a Hollywood basement" I'd correct the issue myself, but I'm unsure as how the process for that goes here in Wikipedia. --Rjfranco 05:17, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

  • I have gone ahead and corrected the misinterpretation, if it was in fact correct and there is evidence by all means revert the change.

I think the overall point of this song is how we are influenced by media and movies, (most of which come from California obviously). We as a society are always looking for more than what we have, which is why there is mention of space and the desire to get off of our own planet. Alderon is more than likely a reference to our idea of a new planet. We dream of doing this only, the reality of it is blurred of our perception of space in films, "Space may be the final frontier but it's made in a Hollywood basement" (In other words, get real people) We need to be happy with what we have and take care of what we have because we are always thinking that if we kill this planet, there are more out there and that is a dangerous way to think of things. I dont think it is referencing Star Trek, that is an obvious interpretation but not correct. Is the poppy field a refrence to Kurt Cobain? Cobain was on heroin (which is derrived from poppies) at the time of his death and part of Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box" video took place in a poppy field. I've also toyed with the idea of it being a refrence to Wizard of Oz. user:mustang6172

I've wondered about the poppy field too. Because anthony lands in the field and then the flowers grow big and he has a hard time finding a way out, I was thinking it more has to do with how heroin kind of takes over your life and how once you've started, it's hard to stop. I was thinking that because anthony has had personal experiences with heroin, and not just with kurt cobain; kiedis himself did heroin for a time and hillel slovak, his best friend, died of a heroin overdose. Just a thought.

I noticed, at about the 2nd or third verse, there are the words, "Little girls from sweden dream of silver screen quotations." I just thought that was a little interesting because in the book, Holden Caulfields little sister, Phoebe, liked to repeat quotes from movies she saw. Is the cover a reference to "Hotel California", from The Eagles?

I must strongly object to a piece in this article, which refers to the lyrics "Space may be the final frontier but it's made in a Hollywood basement" as being a reference to Star Trek. I don't know who wrote this, but I must say that it is painfully obvious that they are referring to the first step on the moon, which has been widely believed to be a hoax and recorded on beforehand.
