It does seem odd, and yet every source, including contemporary ones, claim he was a member of the meeting, even to his old age, and indeed his remains lie in the meeting yard to this day. stilltim (talk) 13:47, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
I've added him to WP Quaker - you don't have to be a pacifist to be a Quaker (though most Quakers are pacifists), but it is certainly very, very unusual for a Quaker to have a military career.
