Talk:Calcium fluoride
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Is the safety data accidentally taken from the HF page? CaF2 has oral LD50 ~2000 mg/kg - ie essentially nontoxic.
[edit] Crystal structure is wrong
Both the diagram and the description of CaF2's crystal structure are incorrect. This is true simply as a matter of fact, but you can see for yourself just looking at the picture: the unit cell shown contains 4 calcium and 4 fluorine atoms. How can the ratio of Ca to F in calcium difluoride be unity?
The correct fluorite structure has alternating cubic cells--half of them are BCC with a Ca2+ ion in the middle; half of them are simple cubic (i.e. lacking Ca2+ ions altogether). When you put eight of these cubes together, you get the correct CaF2 unit cell. -134.84.102.192 (talk) 21:14, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- The unit cell shown contains 4 Ca and 8 F.
