[edit] Summary
Soprano Maria Callas as Violetta in Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata, directed by Luchino Visconti and conducted by Carlo Maria Giulini at La Scala, 1955. Of Callas's performance in this production, Maestro Giulini recalled, "reality was onstage. What stood behind me, the audience, auditorium, La Scala itself, seemed artifice. Only that which transpired on stage was truth, life itself." Source is Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
