Calvin Dobbs

Calvin Dobbs was a fictional character on the sitcom, 227 and he was portrayed by Curtis Baldwin. Calvin is the grandson of Pearl Shay who is best friends with Mary Jenkins, who has a daughter named Brenda, whom Calvin wanted to date (and which finally happened in the latter part of the series, and in return, Brenda had a crush on Calvin and cared about him a lot.).

Calvin is shown as a typical teenager living with his grandmother, Calvin may have been dull at some point in the series, but is very intelligent and he and Brenda graduate from College (the college that they both attended was unknown). At one time in the series, Calvin was auditioning the for the lead at his school's musical, however, the role was dwindled down when Calvin earned the role as a talking tree, when he discovered that his grandmother Pearl was going to visit her sister, Lulu, Mary offered to watch Calvin and let him stay at the Jenkins' apartment. Calvin, by this time is depressed goes out to the 227 front stoop and sees his neighbor, Sandra Clark walking up to her apartment after coming from shopping in the city. Calvin goes up to Sandra's apartment, and then changes his attitude, calling Brenda a "child", and acting like a casanova. Mary goes up to speak to Sandra, but Sandra admits "its just a silly little crush.", later on Calvin shows up with a nice tuxedo-style jacket, blue shirt and red tie, Sandra wanted to talk with Calvin about she likes a friend, then Calvin says "you mean it's just physical?" Sandra says to Calvin "Calvin, You're still a boy!" and Calvin reveals "Hopefully I won't be after tonight!".

Sandra walks out of her apartment scared straight and Lester is off to pick up Pearl who just had a fight with her sister Lulu from Baltimore. Brenda confronts Calvin that she cares about him a lot more than Sandra does and is her best friend, they make up and Sandra captures him, when Calvin says "I'm sorry its over between us." Brenda and Calvin apologize, and Lester arrives home with Pearl who Calvin gives his grandmother (Pearl) some French perfume and everything is back to normal. [1].

Also another time in the series when Calvin dealt with a problem was when he and Brenda met a young man named Ron, who offers to take them to a Stevie Wonder concert, and much more, however, Calvin mostly befriends him, and unbeknownist to his grandmother Pearl and her friends: Mary and Rose, all discover that Ron is a drug dealer, when all three of the women tried to speak with Ron's mother, she refuses to believe until a meeting at the laundry room where Ron's mother reveals that he has been killed in a drug bust that went awol.

In the series, Calvin's parents background is completely unknown, and due to his a little oddness to Mary Jenkins, Calvin still is a best friend (later boyfriend) to Brenda.
