Calvert Island
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Calvert Island is an island in Whitefish Bay, Lake of the Woods. Calvert Island's length is about .58 miles from top to bottom, and the width is about .31 miles. The western edge of Calvert Island is lined with smooth rocks that are tilted at a 45-55 degree angle and go straight into the water. Calvert Island is mostly untouched, except for Whitefish Bay Camp, which is on the southern tip of the island. Calvert Island has two bays, one named Clipper Bay, and one is unnamed. Clipper Bay is the largest of the two bays, and is on the southeastern edge of the island. Its depth is around 10-15 feet. The unnamed smaller bay is very shallow, and is usually a breeding ground for frogs and Northern Pike. Most of the cabins from Whitefish Bay Camp overlook this small, shallow bay. Calvert Island neighbors Patsy Island, which is uninhabited. Calvert Island is also surrounded by tiny unnamed islands.
