Calumet is a town in Canadian County, Oklahoma, United States and is part of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area. The population was 535 at the 2000 census.

Calumet is located at 35°36′2″N, 98°7′13″W (35.600454, -98.120409)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.3 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 535 people, 181 households, and 144 families residing in the town. The population density was 417.8 people per square mile (161.4/km²). There were 205 housing units at an average density of 160.1/sq mi (61.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 77.01% White, 0.56% African American, 13.83% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 3.93% from other races, and 4.49% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.54% of the population.

There were 181 households out of which 43.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.6% were married couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.4% were non-families. 19.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.96 and the average family size was 3.32.

In the town the population was spread out with 32.9% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 9.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 29 years. For every 100 females there were 88.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $33,571, (compared to a national average of $41,994) and the median income for a family was $37,679. Males had a median income of $24,773 versus $19,167 for females. The per capita income for the town was $11,589. About 9.9% of families and 14.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.6% of those under age 18 and 22.6% of those age 65 or over.

Calumet contains three schools: an elementary school, a junior high, and a high school, all housed in one building. The Calumet school system services 368 students as of 2005 with 26 teachers giving a student-teacher ration of 14.4/1.[citation needed]
