Calum Giles

Calum Giles (born October 27, 1972) is a former Great Britain olympic field hockey player, who competed in the British squad at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Calum Giles is considered one of the worlds best drag flick and penalty corner specialists. His story on Stickwiseproves that you don’t have to be rich, you don’t even have to play hockey at school. All you need is a dream, and then the desire in your heart to go and achieve it.

[edit] Hockey Career
Calum started his hockey career at the age of 5 playing for OPCS in Portsmouth. He made his national league debut at the age of 18 playing for Havant Hockey Club in 1991 and his international debut at the age of 23 playing for England in 1995. He played club hockey in England and the Netherlands. Calum retired from international hockey in 2000 to pursue his coaching career and became full-time player coach to Oxted hockey club. After several years at Oxted he gained the club promotion to the National league for the first time in their history. Following his time in Oxted he re-joined his childhood dream Havant Hockey Club as player coach where he in just 2 years managed to take them back into the pinnacle of English hockey for the 2007/2008 season and managing to end the season 4th in the Men's Premier Division.
Calum Giles has played 143 caps for England and Great Britain and has scored 110 international goals. He retired from international hockey in 2000.
Calum Giles is currently player coach of the Mens first XI of Havant Hockey Club, works as a full time hockey trainer / coach, organises camps and is a consultant coach through his company Stickwise.
