American Beautyberry (species, Callicarpa americana) is a beautyberry tree. It is grown in gardens and yards as an ornamental plant. American beautyberries produce large clusters of pink-berries. They are eaten by birds and deer which disperse the seeds. The fruit are palatable and can be consumed raw small amount as it is astringent. It has a sweet pleasent flavor. The fruit are sometimes used to make jellies. The roots are used to make herbal tea.
