[edit] Education

Public education for most Calimesa children is provided by the Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District, with the remaining southernmost area now served by the neighboring Beaumont Unified School District.

The only public school in Calimesa is Mesa View Middle School. Mesa View Middle School was completed nearly four years ago at a cost to taxpayers of $67 million but has remained vacant due to the lack of a road connecting the school to the community. The Yucaipa Calimesa Joint Unified School District is currently proposing to build a multi-million dollar road winding through environmentally sensitive land in order to one day utilize the facility.

However, not all of Calimesa is in the jurisdiction of the YCJUSD. The southernmost area of the city has recently been discovered to actually be in the Beaumont Unified School District jurisdiction, especially in the newer housing tracts being built south of the Calimesa Country Club and west of Interstate 10. There is a strong community movement in Calimesa to unify all Calimesa students into the Yucaipa Calimesa School District. The Beaumont School District is strongly opposed to this community movement.

[edit] Public safety

Calimesa is served by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department via the Cabazon regional station. The City of Calimesa contracts for fire services with the Riverside County Fire Department through a cooperative agreement with Cal Fire(California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection).
