[edit] Route description

State Route 7 begins at the Calexico East Border Station and is an expressway for its entire length. Just north of the border, SR 7 merges with commercial truck traffic that has gone through the commercial border crossing on Carr Road. From here to Interstate 8, SR 7 is an expressway. At State Route 98, SR 7 has an at-grade intersection. At its northern end, SR 7 turns into County Route S32 (Orchard Road) as it intersects with Interstate 8.[3]

[edit] History

Route 7 was added to the state highway system in 1990,[4] and to the Freeway and Expressway System in 1998.[5] The segment from the Mexican border to State Route 98 was completed in March 1996 at expressway standards; however, the segment from SR 98 to Interstate 8 was not completed until 2005.
