State Route 255 is a state highway in Humboldt County, California, United States. It is a western alternate route of U.S. Route 101 between Eureka and Arcata, routed via the Samoa Bridge over Humboldt Bay and Samoa Island, rather than via tidelands on the east side of the bay.
Highway 255 provides road access to the Humboldt County communities of Samoa, Fairhaven, and Manila, which are all located on Samoa Island. Before the Samoa Bridge was built in the 1960s, access to Samoa Island was entirely by boat or ferry. Completion of highway 255's northern leg to Arcata in 1970, along the man-made peninsula connecting Samoa Island to the mainland, made Humboldt Bay's ferries obsolete. One ferry, the Madaket, continues operating as a tour boat on Humboldt Bay.
