From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 2006 California Secretary of State election occurred on November 7, 2006. The primary elections took place on June 6, 2006. State Senator Debra Bowen, the Democratic nominee, narrowly defeated the incumbent, Republican Bruce McPherson. Forrest Hill was the Green Party nominee, Margie Akin was the Peace and Freedom Party nominee, Gail Lightfoot was the Libertarian Party nominee, and Glenn McMillon was the American Independent Party nominee.
McPherson was unopposed in the primary, while Bowen faced State Senator Deborah Ortiz. Bowen won with 61% of the vote to Ortiz's 39%. [1]
