The 2002 California Secretary of State election occurred on November 5, 2002. The primary elections took place on June 4, 2002. State Assemblyman Kevin Shelley, the Democratic nominee, narrowly defeated the Republican, State Senator Keith Olberg. Larry Shoup was the Green Party nominee, Louise Marie Allison was the Natural Law Party nominee, Gail Lightfoot was the Libertarian Party nominee, Valli Sharpe-Geisler was the Reform Party nominee, and Edward C. Noonan was the American Independent Party nominee.
