[edit] History

The California San Bernardino Mission was organized on July 1, 1980, branching off from the Anaheim California Mission.[2] Since 2007, there has been over 3,000 Mormon missionaries who have served full-time in this mission. There have been nine mission presidents who have served in this mission since its organization.[3]

[edit] Stats

The mission office is located in the city of Rancho Cucamonga, California.[4] There are presently four different language speaking missions within the California San Bernardino Mission. The four languages include English, Spanish, Tongan, and Samoan.[5] To proselyte in this mission, missionaries use cars, bicycles, and walking as their prime source of transportation. The mission is primarily divided in three areas. This includes the city, mountains, and the high desert of San Bernardino county. The city areas includes the cities of Upland, Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino, Colton, and Rialto. The mountain areas include the cities of Wrightwood, Big Bear, and Lake Arrowhead. The high desert areas include the cities of Apple Valley, Victorville, Hesperia, and Barstow. Missionaries attended the Mormon Los Angeles California Temple in Santa Monica, California to perform endowment sessions from 1980-2001, several times a year. Since 2001, with the addition of the Redlands Temple in Redlands, California missionaries have been doing endowment sessions in the Redlands California Temple.

[edit] Climate

In the mission, the climate varies with each location. In the city area, the average high temperature is about 80 degrees all year round. It can get as hot as over 100 degrees in the summer and stays constant around 70 degrees in the winter. It rarely drops below 40 as the low temperature all year around.[6] In the mountain area, the average high temperature varies with the season, ranging from 44 degrees in January to 81 degrees in July. The low temperature can get very cool at night, again varying with the seasons.[7] The high desert also varies greatly. The high temperature changes with the seasons, ranging from 60 degrees in January, well passing the 110 degree mark in July. The low temperature is cool all year around, ranging from 30 to 60 degrees, depending on the season.[8] The rainy season in all areas are usually within the months of November to April.[9] Besides the climate, the mission is vulnerable to earthquakes and forest fires.
