From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 2006 California Insurance Commissioner election occurred on November 7, 2006. The primary elections took place on June 6, 2006. Businessman Steve Poizner, the Republican nominee, defeated Lt. Governor Cruz Bustamante, the Democratic nominee, for the office previously held by John Garamendi, who won the Lt. Governor race in that same election. Larry Cafeiro was the Green Party nominee, Tom Condit was the Peace and Freedom Party nominee, Dale Ogden was the Libertarian Party nominee, and Jay Earl Burden was the American Independent Party nominee.
Poizner was unopposed in the primary, while Bustamante faced John Kraft. Bustamante won with 70.5% of the vote to Kraft's 29.5%. [1]
