California's 47th congressional district covers the cities of Anaheim, Garden Grove, Santa Ana and some of Fullerton in Orange County. Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, a Democrat, is the current representative of the 47th District and has served since 1996. Rep. Sanchez is a member of the Blue Dog Coalition of Conservative Democrats.

George W. Bush received 50% of the vote in this district in 2004; John Kerry received 49%.[1] The district voted for Arnold Schwarzenegger 54-40% in 2006,[2] Dianne Feinstein 60-34% in 2006,[3] Barbara Boxer 58-35% in 2004,[4] recalling Gray Davis 62-38%[5] and Schwarzenegger 49-31%[6] in 2003, and Davis 51-40% in 2002.[7]
