Calhoun High School is located in Port Lavaca, Texas. A part of the Calhoun County Independent School District, Calhoun High School is named after U. S. Senator and the seventh Vice President John C. Calhoun, an infamous slave owner who opposed both abolitionism and attempts to limit the expansion of slavery into the western territories.
History: The school was built in 1964 because the old high school, what is now Travis Middle School, was too small. The new high school was built in 1968. It is now the home of the Fighting Sandcrabs.
