Calgary Rugby Foot-ball Club

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Calgary Rugby Foot-ball Club was an early football club formed in Calgary, Alberta in October 1907. Today's Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League directly trace their lineage to this club.

Calgary RFC renamed itself the Calgary Tigers in 1908 and joined the Calgary Rugby Football Union in the same year (along with Caledonia and Hillhurst Football Clubs). It later joined the Western Canada Rugby Football Union in 1911. The team would be renamed several names in next few decades:

  • 50th Battalion in 1923
  • Calgary Altomah-Tigers and Altomahs 1923
  • Calgary Bronks 1935
  • Calgary Stampeders 1945
