Calala, is a small suburb (pop. 3,519 [1] ) of the Northern New South Wales city of Tamworth, administered by Tamworth Regional Council. The area is 4.5km, from the CBD of Tamworth and is connected to the city by Calala Lane, the main road, which often becomes flooded in times of heavy rain, usually isolating the residents from the rest of the city. A new commercial shopping complex opened in 2006 which now serves the residents of Calala. The complex contains a small IGA supermarket, fish & chip takeaway shop, bottle shop and butcher. Calala also contains a smaller shopping centre consisting of a bottle shop, general store and hair salon. The Calala Tavern is a local pub where many residents enjoy a drink.
