Cal Jones (games journalist)

Cal Jones (born June 17, 1967) is a games journalist from London who worked on magazines such as PC Review and PC Gaming World (the UK edition of Computer Gaming World) during the 1990s.

One of the first females games journalists, Cal got her break in 1993 when EMAP's PC Review magazine advertised for staff writers. She remained there as a reviews editor until 1996 when the magazine was sold to rival Future Publishing, preferring to go instead to Ziff Davis to launch PC Gaming World.

During her first year on PC Review, Cal was approached by producer Rik Henderson, who was looking for a female gamer to appear on the Hewland games show, Games World, as a 'videator'.

Appearing as a Tank Girl-inspired character, 'Combat Cal', Cal appeared in the second series of the show, which was shot in disued tram shed in Old Street. As a PC gamer, used to playing games such as Populous and Doom, Cal did not get on with the console games she was given to play on the show, and appeared only during the second series.

Cal did not game competitively again but during her stint on PC Gaming World, she became quite well-known on the Quake scene and was voted Quake's sexiest female player on Siren's Quake page, beating a pre-surgery Killcreek (Stevie Case).

Cal currently works as a games industry recruitment consultant.
