Cal Hunter is the current general manager and main on-air talent of Red Bluff, California radio station KBLF-AM 1490, owned by Huth Broadcasting of Marysville, California, which also owns KMYC-AM 1410 in Marysville. His unmistakable voice, charm and great sense of humor are recognized throughout northern California.
In addition to his announcing and morning show duties, he also calls Red Bluff (High School) Spartans football games alongside longtime sidekick John Gentry. In 2007 and 2007, Cal also served as the voice of the Feather River College Golden Eagles football team, and was in the broadcast booth for one of the largest upsets in California Junior College football. It was the defeat of Sierra College in 2006, in Rocklin, after Sierra had put together an incredible 37 game win streak.
As one of the most recognized on-air talents in Northstate radio and television history, Cal is best remembered as the longtime news director and anchor of KRCR-TV's 7R News (now known as News Channel 7). He currently lives in Redding, California.
Hunter also served as general manager and on-air talent at the now-defunct KMCA-AM and helped start an effort to purchase the station. Sadly, that deal fell through. He also served as on-air talent on KWHO-FM in Mt. Shasta (now KNTK-FM) for two and a half years. In fact, then-station owner Tom Huth credited on-air talent Mike Summers (now of Sainte Television Group) for hiring Cal.
In addition to radio, Cal does a little television production and industrial film making, is a voice over talent, and enjoys being a baseball umpire, mostly at the high school level. He also referees basketball at the junior high level. He and his wife Donna have nine children, and nine grandchildren as of the beginning of 2008.
