Cal Cunningham

James Calvin Cunningham, III (born 6 August 1973) is a Democratic Party politician in the United States, and a former member of the North Carolina General Assembly.

Cunningham was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and grew up in Lexington, North Carolina; he graduated from Forsyth Country Day School in 1991. In 1996, he earned degrees in philosophy and political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he served as Student Body President. Cunningham earned a graduate degree in public policy and public administration from the London School of Economics in 1997, and graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1999. He then entered private practice and currently practices in the Winston-Salem, North Carolina office of Kilpatrick Stockton LLP. Cunningham is also a Captain in the United States Army Reserve and is a graduate of Airborne School. He is married to Elizabeth Kolb Cunningham; they have two children, Caroline ("Caroline") Evans Cunningham and William ("Will") Henry Cunningham.
