Community Alliance for the Ethical Treatment of Youth (CAFETY) is a volunteer, youth-run effort working in support of the protection for human rights of youth in punitive behavior modification boot camps, wilderness programs, private alternative adolescent programs, therapeutic' boarding schools and residential treatment centers, with a focus at this time primarily on unregulated facilities. We seek to achieve this, in part, by offering a space where individuals effected by such facilities can come together cohesively to affirm their grievances pertaining to these issues.

We are spearheading a youth initiated ‘Care, Not Coercion’ campaign to bring attention to some of the more problematic elements of these facilities such as abusive treatment, treatment whose efficacy has not been proven, and violation of rights of youth.

We are calling on Congress to hold hearings on this important issue, for federal grants to be made available and state regulation and licensure of these facilities to ensure that the the rights of youth are protected, mistreatment is not occurring and efficacy of care.

We have begun to engage in public education, grassroots advocacy & organizing, and alliance-building.
